Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Protests erupted in Kolkata's Tiljala area on Monday over the alleged rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl. The child's family members, along with a large number of local people, participated in the demonstration, demanding justice for the victim.
The protesters blocked a bus on the Picnic Garden-Howrah route, carrying posters and shouting slogans. They sat on the streets, chanting "We want justice," and vowed to continue their protest until those responsible for the girl's death are brought to justice.
The protest turned violent when some protesters vandalized a police vehicle and set it on fire at Bondel Gate. A police kiosk and a bike were also vandalized and set on fire. Stone pelting was reported, causing chaos in the area. The train was jammed for several hours at Ballyganj station, disrupting the movement of trains on the Sealdah South Branch.
According to sources, Alok Rai, who was arrested in the incident, made a shocking statement during the police interrogation. He claimed that if his wife had a child, the child would not have died. He then went to a tantrik in Nimatalla and asked him to kill a child. The tantrik allegedly advised Rai to sacrifice a child to conceive. The police are investigating the veracity of Rai's statement and searching for the tantrik.
The body of the minor girl was recovered from the kitchen of a neighbor's flat on Sunday evening after being missing since morning. The police have arrested three locals for vandalism in the Tiljala police station area on Sunday night, including a woman. The incident has sparked outrage in the community, with many demanding justice for the victim.
